Xi Jinping, Donald Trump Hold Talks in South Korea; China, U.S. Reach Consensus on Trade Solutions

Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump held a meeting in Busan, South Korea, on Thursday, following Xi’s arrival for the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju and a state visit to South Korea.
President Xi said that the economic and trade teams of both nations had engaged in in-depth discussions and reached a consensus on resolving key issues. He emphasized that economic and trade relations should act as the “ballast and driver” of China-U.S. ties—serving as a stabilizing and growth-promoting force rather than becoming sources of conflict.
Xi urged both sides to focus on long-term cooperative benefits instead of falling into a cycle of retaliation, and encouraged their teams to narrow the list of disputes while expanding areas of collaboration based on equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.
